The Film Industry Moves In…
Michigan = Hollywood of the Midwest?
Michigan is rapidly gaining a reputation as a great state in which to make movies.
In fact, the last dozen years or so have seen an explosion of movies shot here in Michigan.
As an example, nearly 70 films were shot in our great state in 2008 alone!
Recently, David Arquette and the “Scream 4” cast and crew were in Plymouth shooting some location pieces. Our fair city was transformed into downtown “Woodsboro, California,” complete with City of Woodsboro-themed vehicles and locales (one of the primary sets was located about 100 feet from the front door of our office!).
One of our agents had a bit of fun capturing some of the action (from a distance) as Hollywood descended on downtown Plymouth for a few days of production and filming. Crowds gathered to watch from a distance as the cameras rolled in Kellogg Park.
Upcoming Movies to be Shot in Michigan
The State of Michigan Film Office has a running list of movies and features in production or soon to be in production. The Michigan Film Office also has a site for those that would like to be cast or crew on any future productions within the state of Michigan. Finally, if your property, business or general setting would be a great location for use in an upcoming feature, upload your pictures and description to the Michigan Film Office for producers to find and review.
