Sellers: You're Not Alone

Geez!  What’s it going to take for sellers in today’s market to understand that price moves the property?

Apparently the National Association of Realtors president, Thomas M Stevens, is having the same problems selling as the average Joe in S.E. Michigan!  According to this article from the Washington Post, president Stevens did not listen to the advice of his agent and drop the price prior to the market slowdown around Washington D.C.

What advice does president Stevens give in light of his inability to sell?

“You need to adjust the price. . . . But I didn’t do that. And my house is still on the market.”

  1. OK, so we adjusted the price – THREE times. Price, as far as I am concerned is NOT the issue. If they want the house, you’ll get offers – stupid, insulting offers. We just got one last week – $50,000 less than our asking price – which has been lowered THREE TIMES. $2000 deposit and of course they want EVERYTHING. I’m surprised they didn’t ask for the cat. People are either ignorant or stupid or probably both. The real estate agents are worse. They are lazy – they show houses to people who aren’t even in the market, they don’t review the specs on the house prior to the visit, they don’t come through the house first so that they can “sell” (remember that word?) the good features of the house. AND They call you maybe an hour in advance to see you house. Then you are lucky if they show up! Your lucky if they return your agent’s calls to get feedback. Maybe it’s time for the REAL ESTATE companies to REDUCE their ridiculous comissions and give the homeowners a break. How about that! And even in this rotten market, I can’t believe the number of houses that are listed without a decent description let alone PICTURES! What exactly do these people do for their commission anyway? The only thing agents do is ask everyone to lower the price so they can get rid of it. As you can see, I have nothing good to say about the entire horrible, demoralizing process.
