This summer, my two boys, Bianca and I are headed to Menifee County, Kentucky to serve the families and folks in one of our nation’s poorest regions. Since 2009, Grace Chapel has been involved in Appalachian Impact.
Menifee is one of the poorest counties in the United States. You may have seen a 20/20 special about this area entitled, Children of the Mountain. In this area there is little money, little aid, and even less hope. The Evangelical Presbyterian Church (our denomination) is the only church organization actively involved in this area. The churches in this area donʼt have the resources to help the people around them. They need the rest of the body of Christ to come and help with their hands and the message of Jesus.
From Grace Chapel’s website:
In 22 of Kentucky’s Appalachian counties, more than 10% of occupied housing units are in substandard condition. No running water or indoor plumbing… crumbling foundations… sagging roofs…The median income of this region averages 50% below the U.S. median income.
Since 2009, Grace Chapel has developed a relationship within this community through the Appalachia Impact experience. Stepping out on mission in the Appalachian foothills is a life changing and faith transforming experience. We do home restoration projects and run a week long educational experience at a community center called, Project Worth.
That is exactly what we are going to be doing this summer. From July 14 through July 20, we are going to head down to Appalachia and serve. We are going to love people, work on various projects, and hopefully live out the message of Jesus in front of the families that we are going to serve.
Would you consider joining us in this mission?
This mission trip is going to cost $600 per person. This includes all of our housing, food, transportation, and ministry expenses. Would you prayerfully consider giving $60 to help send us to Appalachia? All gifts are tax-deductible and you can use the E-Giving portion on our church’s website to give online or simply drop your contact information below and I’ll be in touch with you directly.
Either way, thank you for your support.
